So a horse walks into a bar…oh wait, wrong story. Although, Bully Boy Distillers is, in fact, named after a draft horse that once worked on its founders’ grandfather’s farm—the same farm where the Willis brothers first handcrafted the kind of spirits that would one day lead them into our lanky, agency arms.

Italian Amaro & Grapefruit Spritz

Their first foray into Italian aperitifs started with the Amaro. While traditional Italian motifs were the low-hanging design fruit, we reached for another brighter and bolder one instead: the grapefruit, Amaro’s main ingredient. Eventually it inspired a ready-to-drink cocktail dubbed The Grapefruit Spritz.

Gin, And Make It A Double

Amidst our design overhaul two gins walked in in need of labels and names alike. The first, Estate, is an ode to the Willis family farm whence its homegrown botanicals are deeply rooted. The design emphasizes the origins of those flavors via a landscape depiction of that place.

The second, Merchant, which uses offshore botanicals, was inspired by a maritime landscape reminiscent of old world trade routes. The use of landscapes versus traditional botanical motifs (a common technique amongst other gin brands) remain their key differentiator on the shelf.

Iced Tea & Negroni

Most recently we developed two of their classic Italian cocktails: Italian Iced Tea and Negroni. Both illustrations were inspired by the Amalfi coast as a nod to their origin and a reminder that we’re not there. Sigh.

The Rum Cooperative

Inspired by renowned rums from around the world, the Rum Cooperative is a series of blends celebrating the distinct flavors of various regional rums. To help honor each with a Bully Boy spin, we illustrated the national flowers of each flavor’s respective homeland in a style that harkens back to the wallpaper in their tasting room.
