Video Editor / Filmmaker
(slash jack-of-all-production)

At Fair Folk, we believe that treating people fairly inspires fairness in return. We're a tight-knit team of nine creatives who value collaboration, kindness, and hard work. We are a creative shop and a production company. We're on the lookout for a video editor / filmmaker to help grow our production team. Someone who's ready to bring their talent and heart to our shared table (which has a view of some of Boston’s best sunsets BTW).

Our studio loft space is beautiful, so you might want to come in every day—but we usually only ask that you come in once a week. If you prefer to work remotely the rest of the time, go for it (we do).

What You'll Do:

  • Edit content. Our immediate need is on the post-production side of things. You can take a hard drive of footage and craft it into a beautiful looking and sounding finished piece.

  • Jack-of-all-production. As a small but mighty team, we wear a lot of hats. Do you have directorial dreams, shoot photos, shoot video, color grade, or make music? We’re focusing on an all-star editor, but you don’t need to be tied to your edit station every day.

  • Collaborate openly. Work closely with directors, producers, creatives, and clients to create meaningful work.

  • Embrace feedback. Approach critiques with grace and use them as opportunities to grow and make the work better.

  • Engage with clients. Host supervised edit sessions with internal and external personnel. Regularly interface with clients to present your work and build relationships.

What You Need to Bring:

  • Experience in the world of production and post-production. Whether you’re a recent grad with a killer portfolio, or a former freelancer, or someone who’s worked brand-side, at a production company, post-house, or agency-side.

  • Self-sufficiency. You can self-edit, self-start, and self-manage while staying engaged with the team. Attention to detail is a given, but so is showing up for each other.

  • Versatility. Adapt your editing and creativity to different clients, mediums, audiences, and technological advancements.

  • Taste-maker. You have a passion and genuine interest in the film/photo world. You stay on top of emerging styles/trends and work that aspirational brands are creating.

Essential Skills:

  • Fluent in post-production workflows. Comfortable taking raw footage and crafting scripted and un-scripted content with visuals, music, sound design, and graphic elements.

  • Platform proficiency. Understand how editing varies across platforms like Broadcast TV, CTV, Instagram, TikTok, email, and web.

  • Elevate the work. Your work should not just check a box. You should think about what you can do to make the work better.

Bonus Skills:

  • Directorial dreams. You are an aspiring or established director. You collaborate with creatives, producers, clients, and crew and lead a production from conception to delivery.

  • Shoot video. Do you regularly shoot video projects or work alongside DPs?

  • Photography. Assist or manage client shoots of your own. Our photoshoots cover product, beverage, on-model, sports, etc.

  • Color Grading. Take the locked edit to the next level with beautifully graded images.

  • Campaign development. Involvement in creative concepting sessions and presentations.

  • Presentation prowess. Confidence in presenting ideas to clients and internal teams.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary based on experience

  • Medical, vision, and dental insurance

  • 401k matching

  • Work-life balance—because we do our best work when we actually have a life

Why Fair Folk?

We take our work seriously but keep things lighthearted. Our office is stocked with Trillium beer on tap, a fridge full of seltzers (boozy and not), and the occasional office dog. We believe that great ideas can come from anywhere—including a well-timed Would You Rather? question.

If this sounds like a place where you can thrive, we’d love to see your portfolio. Send us your best work, and let’s see if we’re a good fit.

How to Apply

Send your resume and portfolio to jobs@fairfolk.com with a subject line that’s obvious—but also a little entertaining. (Show us you’ve got range.)

Warm regards,
The Fair Folk Team
